Our Story
The Meteor was founded by two friends who became accidental business partners: Doug Zell, the founder of Intelligentsia Coffee, and Chris St. Peter, a former attorney. Both are avid cyclists. Their vision began with a desire to create a beautiful environment that combines all the things they love under one roof: delicious ingredient-driven food, thoughtfully chosen wine, carefully prepared coffee, and, of course, bicycles. Perhaps more importantly, they hoped to build a community that enjoyed these same pursuits. Thus our motto was born: Espresso | Champagne | Chain Lube
Through The Meteor they hope to offer a distinct, enveloping experience that strives to be better as each day.
Our Locations
The Meteor found its cadence in October 2019 with a complete renovation of a mid-century building on legendary South Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas. The flagship Austin location features an adjacent cafe and bike shop, as well as a charming outdoor patio for year-round outdoor dining. The Meteor’s second location is in Bentonville, Arkansas, a fast-growing mecca for bikes, food, and art - all the things we love, plus some. In September of 2023, a new location opened in the luxurious Dallas Urby in the downtown Design District.
All cafes offer specialty coffee drinks, an expansive selection of for-here and to-go craft beer and natural wine, house-made baked goods, an ingredient-driven food menu, and pizza made with our famous sourdough crust. The bike shops offer a boutique retail environment that specializes in expert service and a carefully vetted selection of bikes, apparel, accessories, and Meteor-branded gear. We intentionally choose every product we carry and are dedicated to serving experienced cyclists, newcomers, commuters, cruisers, or anyone else who rides or aspires to ride a bike.
